• Bad weather coming to N.C

From morningstarr@VERT/DIGDIST to All on Thursday, January 22, 2026 12:40:46
I hope the storm that is coming this weekend, isn't bad. Last time we got a storm like this, we were without power for a month...
How bad do you guys think it will be? I'm debating on renting a generator or getting a hotel. I am not happy!!! :(

Yeah that seems cold. Do you guys lose power for a month
    during winter storms?

No, we have an adequate infrastructure which is funded by out taxes.
as should you. you should contact your congressman and local govt.

you shouldn't live like you are in a 3rd world country.

Last time we had an extended power outage, my BBS was running bare-metal
on a laptop. I was able to take it to Starbucks and transfer mail - I'd download everything then crash my downlinks.

All our lines are above ground. I don't know if i would call that 3rd world country, though.
My syster has stage four cancer and needs oxygen (she is only 40) and if our power goes out, we will have issues.

I lived in an area where electric was underground. Even so, you can just
about bet that the lines eventually run above ground somewhere and, if they
get bad ice, your power is still going out.

I wish we had underground power. I'm in the hills along the California coast, and on my little cul-de-sac street, half of the street is fed power from the cross-streets.

I wonder how earthquakes would affect underground powerlines though. Since parts of the west coast US are prone to earthquakes, I imagine that could be a problem. Aove-ground power lines would be affected by earthquakes too, but I wonder if issues would be worse if they were underground..

    nahhh i think ill stick around...also, i won't use correct grammer...sometimes i just don't feel like it :)
being nice get's you a lot further than being mean. We don't need gate keepers here. We need a community of like minded people, who can help each other. Keep this beautiful bbs scene alive. Rude people run new users off. Some could be rude and make it toxic, but for the most part, it is worth the risk. So by being nice we keep new people to enjoy the scene we so much love.

for someone who claims to love the community and the scene so much you don't follow any of the BBS norms like QUOTING THE DAMN MESSAGE YOU'RE REPLAYING TO
