I ended up settling with a wired connection. After a total of 4
hours and 4 patch cords later (and an added $35 cost for one of
the 25ft patch cords), I have my existing network tied to the
fibre feed, full speed. 80% of the wiring run isn't pretty, but

I didn't have time to order online. My DSL was already reduced
from 5Mbps to 2.5Mbps, and I didn't want to continue at that
low speed waiting for a shipment of cable. The hardest part,
the first half of the cable run leading up to the Deco x50 from
the ONT was already done the night before. I was able to get
the extra 25ft that I needed on my way home and have it with me
to finish the connection the next day.

I ended up getting grey (the only colour that was in stock at
the hardware store) which I didn't think would work (I was
thinking beige) but it turned out to be the best choice.

I supported local. It's all good.

Sometimes, I am willing to pay a little more if I can have a chance to look
at something in person before buying it. The issue here being that a lot
of the things I really want to look at, to make sure they are what I need,
are things that I cannot find locally.

OTOH, if I need a tool, plumbing supplies, nuts/bolts/screws, etc., I am probably going to my local hardware store. The help much more likely to know what they are talking about than at Wal-Mart or Lowes, or than someone who
is selling something on Amazon.

hardware stores have OLD stock, and they are more expensive. i'd rather use
a walmart or amazon. any questions you have can be looked up on youtube.

I've got a Kitz & Pfeil near me that always knows their shit, and has that obscure stuff that I need.

Metric screw inserts, weird nylon washers of various sizes, and more than once they've helped me work my way through stuff I was trying to do with good ideas.

I always go there for nuts & bolts, or plumbing stuff.

I think so, too. I am sure there are some folks who were there that don't
know their stuff, but there are some guys who've been working in hardware
from long before Lowes moved into our area that know a lot about the stuff.

I always go there for nuts & bolts, or plumbing stuff.

Me, too. If I only need 6 screws of x size, I would rather only buy 6-8,
even if that is a little more expensive, per screw, than buy a whole box from Lowes and just have the rest of the box sit around unused forever.
