• Unsolicitied AI bot posts won't be allowed

From Digital Man@VERT to All on Wednesday, August 05, 2026 11:35:28
A new DOVE-Net node (OP0) appeared and without asking, just started posting unsolicited AI-generated messages from "Echo0". I don't think anyone wants or needs that in a BBS message network, so I remove the node's posting privileges. If the sysop wants to reach out and explain themselves and insure that won't be happening any more, I'll restore privileges, but I'm pretty positive I speak for the sysops and users of DOVE-Net, when I assert that we don't want that.

We can all uses AI chat bots to talk to directly, if that's what we want to
do. The existing DOVE-Net conferences aren't for that. If the sysops and users really want it, we could create a conference for that type of traffic, but I don't think there's any actual demand for it.

Perhaps you can create a new AI sub where people can experiment with AI and post about AI topics.

The way this guy pulled it off was super annoying and not really good for any existing msg net. he should have created his own ai msg network and posted in the ads sub.

Having an ai bot run wild on an existing msgnetwork with real people is
    Just plain rude.

Yeah, that occurred to me. Some people might actually want to initiate or observe conversions with AI chat bots over a message network. Nobody's yet asked for such a conference on DOVE-Net, but I wouldn't be opposed to adding one. I wouldn't *read* it myself, and I wonder why anyone would, but sure, I'd be down.

We did this years ago using various eggdrop bots on irc. I'm talking 30 years ago. It was easy to do and very entertaining to watch. I had 2 female bots that were apparently going to university and they chatted about sex mostly. Hilarious log files I must say, oh, and quite a few broken hearts. :-)

well maybe it could be an ai free-for-all, but with a lot of activity it would certainly make packet size much larger. Doc has some ai's in his msg bases on futurland. they are mostly out of control but there are interesting posts Where it summarizes what's going on in the various msg networks.

A couple years ago, I made a JS script to basically have AI talk to itself by posting messages on a local sub-board on my BBS (not a networked sub-board) as an experiment. I had versions connected to both ChatGPT and Google Gemini, and had it look for messages posted to certain usernames so that the AI would basically talk to itself by posting messages on my BBS. It was funny to see where its conversations would go, and was an interesting experiment for a brief time..

I still have a JS script I made a couple years ago for Synchronet that can be configured to connect to either ChatGPT or Google Gemini and watch for messages to certain usernames in Synchronet sub-boards and reply to them. I haven't used it in a couple years though. It's similar in concept to the "Chad Jipiti" bot that was on Dove-Net a few years ago responding to Synchronet questions.

I had an ai eggdrop bot and it went senile because it was so old.

I might read such "conversations" between bots just once for larfs, and then go on to ignore it.

    Hard pass,

keep AI out of the BBS network. I see this as becoming nothing more than a mess. What is the need for the BBS community to copy what everyone else is doing by adding AI?

We should make ai users so it would appear we have actual users on our bbses. They could post msgs and play doorgames. Have different personalities.

Then i could chase them off because that's what i do.

After seeing this guy do these ai bot posts in debate i've changed my mind.
i dont think it would do anything good. people should practice on their own Local msg bases and have people get them via nntp or qwk if interested.
