Man, I used to be into wrestling from the late 70's to the late 80's. I grew up in the St. Louis area and always watched Wrestling at The Chase on Sunday mornings that was host at Chase Plaza. I went a few times with my family to the Kiel Auditorium and watched the greats, such as Rick Flair and Harley Race beat the hell out of each other. lol

I have not watched it in years but, when I was a kid, "Championship
Wrestling" came on for an hour, at Noon, just as cartoons were ending. I didn't watch it until I met some other kids who did, c1982.

I don't remember the name of the "federation" that was represented, but I
think it was "Southeast" or something. Jimmy Hart, Jerry "the King"
Lawler, Dutch Mantell, the Fabulous Ones, Kenya Kondori, Bill Dundee, Sweet Brown Sugar, Sabu, are some I remember. There was also a team of "Swamp"
guys, but I don't remember their nicknames, and a team from "down under" (that didn't include Bill Dundee) that I think were supposedly from New Zealand.
One of them was bald and, IIRC, missing some teeth. The other one mostly grunted and didn't talk (in complete sentences) much.

I watched that every Saturday I was home for a couple of years. One of the girls I was in class with actually went to some of their events at the Louisville Gardens. She was pretty cool. I look back and wish she'd lived closer by.

Wow! I can't believe I found a 70s-80s wrestling discussion on a BBS network in 2026. So, honest question: does anyone else think Magnum T.A. would have become a bigger star than Hulk Hogan if it hadn't been for that car crash in 1986?

I never liked hogan. Dude looked 50+ his whole life.
One thing he had was personality.

I don't recall magnum t.a. Having much personality back then.

TA had the body and he was a good wrestler. Did he even have a finisher?

Maybe hogan is who brought the finisher to the usa as well.

I'll answer your question with a question. Jesse Ventura had a podcast several years ago, and he had Roddy Piper on. They waxed nostalgic about the early days of wrestling, riding busses all across middle America, wrestling in high-school gymnasiums and local clubs. Turned out, after "They Live", Jesse and Roddy had a tryout for a network TV pilot about two wrestler/detectives in Hawaii. It got greenlit, then held up due to politics at the network and ultimately dropped. Seemed like Roddy had some hard times since then, and he wondered how that would have changed his life. This might have been recorded the year he passed away.

his net worth was around 4 million. he went around doing wrestling and booking nd promoting. I wouldn't call those hard times.

I met this around this time when he went to my town.
Dude was exactly how he is on tv. he also hit every bar and went to milwaukee After that.

That tvshow sounds like pure dogshit.
