Bright Double Stars (all night)
When the moon is full, double stars make excellent targets. Some of the best doubles available in evening during late January are Almach (yellow and white, mag 2.2 and 5 stars, easily split), Epsilon Arietis (white, mag 5.7 and 6.0 stars, close together), Lambda Arietis (white, mag 4.8 and 6.7 stars, medium- close together), Iota Cassiopeiae (white triple stars of mag 4.6, 6.9, and 10.7), and Omicron Eridani, also known as Keid and Beid (mag 4 and 4.4 stars, widely separated). In late evening observe Sigma Orionis (nice binoculars multiple) and 145 CMa, which is also designated HIP35210 and HR2764 and sometimes the "Winter Albireo", which shows as bright citrus or orange (mag 4.8) and royal blue (mag 6.9) stars, widely separated.
