  • Bullhorns, BBS and Choice

    Perhaps most social media platforms, at least at first glance, reflect this maxim:

    Hand someone a bullhorn, and chances are they'll use it to amplify their position, whether wisdom or error. What draws the most attention is often what gets repeated.

    While this first glance is misleading, because it doesn't apply equally to all sites, from Reddit on down, the dangers of bullhorns are very real.

    I feel that Dove-Net and similar networks, and BBS systems in general, would not be what they are if we didn't leave the many for the one, to the extent that we do.

    As BBS users, that is our strength, not our weakness. We are not in the business of inventing easy-to-use, polished bullhorns. We platforms that offer choice and nuance -- and that is something to be proud of.
