Is there anything for installing drivers on windows 11? I've tried the XP/2K drivers that work under windows 10 32 bit, supposed windows 7 drivers that were a mac image of a cd and supposed windows 10 64 bit drivers that weren't identified. I've got this working on my windows
10 32 bit system, but want it on a windows 11 system as I'm not using
that IP address to connect to my bbs and would be able to identify
dial-up users from sexpots from that system.
Must be an internal "WinModem", eh?
Recommend getting an external modem. No drivers needed.

Not even sure most computers have serial ports for external any more.

No, external USB modem. Thats the same issue I had when I had my
dialup line last year. But I am on Win7, so it worked.

Yes, I was impressed that it's a hardware modem! Now I need someone to test my connection! 986-303-1430.
Some Sysops never shut-up about them. Their boards were the first to vanish
AND always shit to connect to. ALWAYS had problems or got some shitty conne rate. 31200, or 33600 to any other board .... usr board ... nahh .. let's d 21600.

You can buy PCI Express X1 to 2x DB9 serial card. Very cheap.

That's a great idea. Almost every motherboard has that x1 slot doing
nothing. I'd thought about adding a NVME slot to mine.

Oh. Didn't know there was such a thing as a USB modem. Sounds like
it's in the same category as a WinModem, maybe.

I don't know. I've already spent over $150 on the endeavor... Now I'd have to get a serial card and new modem. What Modem should I get? It needs to be pretty small, I don't have much room left on my desk :).

I think you can get a USB -> RS232 adaptor, but I'm not sure how the OS handles that.
Ok, ordered a Startech 56k USB
modem with windows 11 drivers. It
was $50.

Small, work very well in VoIP, it use "recent" Conexan

Windows but have had zero issues with the thing. I works great.
I like that its a hardware modem instead of a soft modem.

For NVME SSD you have to use PCI-Express X4(+ adapter), so you must use one X16 slot. If your MB is a little old, the SSD will don't boot, so
you can't have here the main OS, only for storage.
But now SSD are very expensive, not a good time to buy.
I just got a startech 56k usb modem that seems to be working great, and tehre are drivers for. It's conexant as well.
I assumed NVMe would run in an X1 slot, but slower.

We did - 24 calls on the evening of 19 September, from Warsaw, a USRobotics Courier on a VoIP gateway with not one metre of copper
on our side. Your modem answers fine and we reached 14400 with
V.42bis, but V.8 never completes between us, so V.34 never gets a
chance. One call in full - spectrum, signalling, packet stats, audio replay, no login needed:

I finally connect to the BBS (from France) at 24000 bps today. Have tested 4 different external modems but i have only luck with my USRobotics Courier 3453C...
Weird. I'm not sure why one modem would have more luck than others...
Any way, I'm glad you were able to connect!

That was always the case ... but my luck was with ZOOM modems ... USRs are shit. :)

Maybe it depend of the ATA device. I know there is some models that work better with modems. I tweak mine ATA for better connections, FSX settings, Codecs, etc.
