Registry entries.
Preference file section related to Recent Items.
Separate folder which just stores Recent Items shortcut lnk files.

I thought I looked in the registry, at every place related to the
program and did not find those entries.
Stupid me; cannot find the registry; I need to do this in XP so I
booted to the XP drive. Very likely had booted to the Win7 drive.
Fiddled around, found 2 versions, C:\Windows\System32\Regedt32.exe
(4K) and C:\Windows\Regedit.exe (143K).
Hmmmph. Tried C:\Windows\System32\Regedt32.exe; acted stupid and
since I previously did not find those entries under/associated with the program name, I tried one of those pulldown values, and bingo.. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Search Assistant\ACMru\....
subfolders like 5603, 5604, 5647.
In other words, something not even a M$ programmer would even dare to
think of!
That did NOT remove anything in the pulldown, tried search again,, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ComDlg32\OpenSaveMRU\*
subfolder.
Again, that did NOT remove anything in the pulldown,, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ComDlg32\OpenSaveMRU\lyc
subfolder.
Bingo! Found all entries. Did NOT get them nailed.
The registry is empty WRT the contents in the file pulldown.
Erggh! Found them hiding in the program INI file. Found others
hiding in the program's LAYOUT folder.
So when in doubt, look everywhere including the kitchen sink.
